Overall Performance Comparison

SpringWell wins on transparency and contaminant coverage. Kinetico’s edge is the dealer service model for homeowners who want one point of contact for everything.
| Category | SpringWell CF1 | Kinetico | Edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pricing Transparency | 5/5 | 2/5 | SpringWell |
| Contaminant Coverage | 5/5 | 3/5 | SpringWell |
| Warranty | 5/5 | 3.5/5 | SpringWell |
| Installation & Service | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | Kinetico |
Pricing Transparency: SpringWell publishes everything. Kinetico requires a sales visit before you can compare cost or specs.
Contaminant Coverage: Catalytic carbon handles both chlorine and chloramine. Activated carbon handles chlorine only – a meaningful gap if your utility has switched disinfectants.
Warranty: Lifetime on tanks and valves vs 10 years dealer-tied. SpringWell’s terms are more favorable for long-term ownership.
Installation & Service: Kinetico’s dealer model is a genuine advantage for homeowners who want one contact for everything – water test, install, and ongoing service.
Installation and Ongoing Service

Both systems go in at the point of entry after the water meter. The install experience is where they diverge significantly.
SpringWell CF1 Installation
- Typically a plumber job – 2 to 4 hours
- Install kit included – bypass, fittings, sediment housing
- No electricity or drain required
- Sediment filter swap every 8-9 months – ~$40/year
- Main tank media lasts the life of the system
Kinetico Dechlorinator Installation
- Dealer handles the full install – no DIY path
- In-home water test included in the sales process
- No electricity required – runs on water pressure
- Media swap every 3-5 years at ~$695 per dealer visit
- Parts and service tied to your local Kinetico dealer
Chlorine vs Chloramine – Why It Matters Here

This is the most important technical distinction on this page. Many municipal utilities now use chloramine instead of free chlorine because it lasts longer in the distribution system. Standard activated carbon is effective for free chlorine, but it is not the ideal media for chloramine unless the system is specifically designed and sized for it.
The Kinetico Dechlorinator uses activated carbon. If your utility runs chloramine – and most do – a dechlorinator will not solve your disinfectant problem. Kinetico sells a separate Chloramine Reduction System (CRS) with proprietary Chloraban media for that, but that is a different product at a different price point.
The SpringWell CF1 uses catalytic carbon and KDF. Catalytic carbon is specifically engineered to break down chloramine molecules, not just adsorb chlorine. That difference matters for anyone on a modern municipal water supply.
Before buying either system, check your utility’s Consumer Confidence Report. It will tell you whether your water is disinfected with chlorine or chloramine. You can usually find it on your water utility’s website or request it directly.

Context & Methods
βNDβ = Not Detected above the lab reporting limit. THMs compared to EPA MCL (80 ppb). Barium compared to EPA MCL (2 ppm). Samples analyzed by Tap Score (ETR Labs & Microbac).
*Lead note: A trace detection at 0.5 ppb (~30Γ lower than EPAβs 15 ppb action level) was traced to a leaking kitchen faucet with failing braided supply lines. The fixture was replaced after sampling. Follow-up troubleshooting pointed to the faucet and supply lines rather than the CF itself.
*TDS note: TDS reflects natural mineral content in city water and can vary seasonally and year-to-year. The SpringWell CF is not designed to reduce TDS. Differences between 2022 (baseline) and 2025 (post-test) reflect supply variation, not filter performance.
