Quality Water Lab (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates qualitywaterlab.com (the “Site”). This policy explains what information we collect when you visit, how we use it, and the choices you have. In short: we use trackers to understand and improve the Site — and we do not sell your personal information.

Information We Collect

Information you give us. If you email us or fill out a form (for example, to ask a question or subscribe to updates), we collect what you provide — typically your name and email address.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we automatically collect basic technical and usage data when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, the site that referred you, and time spent on pages. We collect this through cookies and similar technologies (see below).

You don’t need an account to use the Site, and we don’t intentionally collect sensitive personal information.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to:

  • operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its content;
  • understand how visitors use the Site so we can make it better;
  • respond to your questions and messages;
  • send updates or offers if you’ve asked to hear from us (you can unsubscribe anytime);
  • measure the performance of our content and advertising; and
  • keep the Site secure and comply with the law.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them, along with similar technologies, to run the Site, remember your preferences, understand usage, and support advertising. You can control or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work as well if you do. We use three categories:

  • Essential — needed for the Site to function.
  • Analytics — help us see how the Site is used so we can improve it.
  • Advertising — help us measure ad performance and show relevant ads.

Analytics and Advertising Tools

We use the following third-party services. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:

  • Matomo (web analytics, hosted on Matomo Cloud) — measures Site traffic and usage; IP addresses may be anonymized. Privacy policy
  • Microsoft Clarity — records session replays and heatmaps to show how visitors interact with pages; sensitive input is masked by default. Microsoft Privacy Statement
  • Google Ads — conversion tracking and remarketing to measure and deliver our advertising. You can opt out via Google Ads Settings. Google Privacy Policy
  • Google Search Console — reports how the Site performs in Google Search using Google’s own data; it doesn’t add tracking to your visit. Google Privacy Policy

You can also opt out of interest-based advertising through the DAA, the NAI, or Your Online Choices (EU/UK).

We’re a reader-supported review site. Some links on the Site are affiliate links (for example, Amazon Associates, Impact, and individual merchant programs). If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. These partners may use cookies to attribute purchases, under their own privacy policies. Our recommendations are based on our own testing and research.

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

  • with service providers who help us run the Site (hosting, analytics, advertising, email) and process data on our behalf;
  • when required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property; and
  • as part of a business transfer (such as a merger or sale of the Site), in which case we’ll note it here.

Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy or as required by law. Usage and analytics data is generally kept for a limited period, then deleted or anonymized.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live — including the EU and UK under the GDPR, and California under the CCPA/CPRA — you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct or delete it;
  • object to or restrict certain processing;
  • opt out of interest-based advertising; and
  • not be treated differently for exercising these rights.

We do not sell your personal information, and we don’t knowingly process data from children under 16. To make a request, email us at [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity first, and we’ll respond within the timeframe the law requires. If you’re in the EU/UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children’s Privacy

The Site isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

International Visitors

We’re based in the United States, and your information is processed here. If you visit from outside the US, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the US.

The Site links to other websites we don’t control. We’re not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please review their policies before sharing information with them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll post any changes on this page and update the “last updated” date at the top.
